Red Hibiscus - Donna Lewis

Hello crafty friends! It’s Donna here, enjoying my last few weeks in Japan. My parents have arrived for a last minute visit, so we’re sitting here companionably as I type. We have plans to visit friends in western Japan and also to visit Mt Fuji if the weather is kind to us! No point in going if all we’ll see is cloud! Anyway, you’re here for cards, I suspect. Today’s card is a very bold coloured card, using a stamp set called Sketchy Hibiscus from Paper Rose Studio.
As usual lately, there is a video to accompany this blog post.
I stamped the image in Memento Tuxedo Black ink, and coloured it with my Copic markers, which are an alcohol based marker. I like the way alcohol markers blend in the paper. I used dark and mid range colours, but no lights on the petals, and I chose some BV (blue violet) markers for the leaves, just for something different. I used white gel pen before yellow marker for the stamens and pollen.
Then came the difficult task of choosing a background. My original choices were too busy, all the grey card bases in my stash were too brown, and the best matching pieces of card are already earmarked for another card. So in the end, I came upon using the Hud Stencil and a pale peach paste that I made myself using Glossy Gel and Water Gems, both from Pink and Main. I’m very happy with the result.
I hope that you are having a super week, and that you are getting some crafty time.
Blessings
Donna
