Rainbow Cards - Donna Lewis

Hello crafty friends. Do bit and pieces of scrap paper appear in your crafty space? I’m always hoarding pieces of paper long after I should have thrown them out, so today I have a card that needs only a smidge of many different papers. As you will see, I had trouble throwing out even the leftovers from this process…
This pair of cards (once again) started as just one card. I started by making a rainbow background, I cut 1cm strips of each of my papers and then adhered them to a sheet of card, using wide double adhesive tape. I’ve linked to a couple of types of wide adhesive below, but if you don’t have it, you can easily use regular double sided tape in strips, or craft glue. You can see the techniques I used for the card in the video below, including how I lined up the strips on such a sticky surface.
Once I had all the strips glued down, I cut my piece down to card size. The die that I chose to use is USA sized, so I cut my strips down to 4 1/4 by 5 1/2 inches. I then layered up two die cuts from the Leaf Burst Rectangle Metal Frame die from Paper Rose Studio. I taped both parts of the die together so that it would cut out the centre. I wanted maximum rainbow here!
The sentiment is called Chunky Happy birthday. I left out the background border die, again because I wanted maximum rainbow. Finally, the cupcake is from a Paper Rose Studio stamp set called Hey Cupcake. I stamped this with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, which is Alcohol ink friendly, then coloured it with my Copic Markers.
When I cut the background for the first card, I had a leftover piece, with strips of different lengths, and I decided to turn that into a second card. I added some more paper behind the backs of the strips where they had been, and cut off a couple of the strips so it would fit on the card with a border. I then found a sentiment and a couple of flowers on the Bright Days Ahead diecuts for a quick and colourful card.
I hope that you’ve enjoyed these bright and simple cards. This background idea would work well with similar coloured strips, or a range of analogous colours, those which are near each other on the colour wheel.
Until next time, stay safe and look after each other!
Blessings
Donna
