Happiness Blooms from Within - Donna Lewis

Hello crafty friends. How are you all doing? We’re STILL lying low here in Tokyo. We’re settling in for the long haul, and trying to set up good routines and happy moments for our days. When having a family discussion about what we needed to be happy in the long term at home, both my son and I listed creative time as important. For him, it’s music and composing. For me, both music and cardmaking fill the need.
I have been drawn to flowers a lot lately. I actually have tulips in bloom in my garden at the moment so this seemed a very apt theme for a card.
This card uses an inlay technique. To do this, I first cut the outline of the tulip die twice on grey card for the outlines. I used a dark grey to mimic the lead of a stained glass window. I layered these two die cuts up and stuck them to my panel, which has a stitched border made by this die.
I then blended inks onto some scrap cardstock in green, blue and red. I used a couple of shades of the green, and used a slight touch of the green over the red to give the darker shadow areas. I then cut parts of the die from each of the colours. Then came the jigsaw puzzle part of the card. I put a little glue in each of the holes and carefully laid the different pieces into their correct holes. If you want to do this technique with this die, please be warned that the tulips are not identical, so you need to remember which is which. (Ask me how I know! 😂)
The sentiment which comes from the Ella’s Garden Scribble Leaves stamp set was stamped in black, then mounted onto the same grey cardstock that I used for the stained glass window.
This was the sort of card that would be good to make in multiples. The first card took a bit longer, but if I had a production line going, I can see that they’d come together quite quickly ( as long as I remembered which tulip was which!) I hope you’ve enjoyed the floral inspiration. If you’d enjoyed this card, and would like to see more, I post all my cards on my Instagram feed here.
Until next time, stay safe and calm. We’ll get through this crazy time!
Blessings,
