Cupcake Cards - Donna Lewis

These, my friends, are two of the best fun cards I’ve had the pleasure of making! All the colours, letting loose with the spatter, and some fun slimline layouts. I really enjoyed the creative process!
Paper Rose Studio has a new stamp set called Hey Cupcake that have just been released! I’ve used all the images from this stamp set to make two ‘same same but different’ cards. If you’re someone that likes things written down, it’s all below, but if you’d like to watch the making process on Youtube, you can watch it here.

I stamped the cupcakes in Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto Neenah Solar White paper, and then fussy cut them by hand. I’m a very slow cutter, but I like the results I get when I take my time. I then coloured the cupcakes using my Copic markers. The colours I used are:
  • Blues – B16, B14, B12, B00
  • Greens – YG07, YG05, YG01, YG00
  • Reds – R89, R37, R83, R81
  • Cake colours – E55, E53, E51
The background was the most fun of all to make. I blended a panel of Neenah Solar White card with Picked Raspberry and Mustard seed Distress Inks. Because of all the spattering to come, there’s no pressure to get the blending nice and even, so you can just relax and enjoy the process.
Once the panels had been blended, I spattered them liberally with white Goache, Black Gansai Tambi watercolour paint ( I like this black because it’s so nice and creamy) and Daniel Smith Rose Madder Genuine watercolour paint. I used a small brush so that I would get a nice small spatters.
I chose two different layouts, and used sentiments from Paper Rose’s Black and White Sentiments. The “cake, cake cake” panel is also from that set, and I just coloured it using my R81marker so that it would fit in with the background. A small black border around it made it pop.
The little extra strip of paper got used inside the card
I had some little spattered paper strips left over from trimming the panels so I added those to the inside of the cards, and they were done.
If you enjoyed this card and would like to see more of my work, you can visit my Instagram feed here, or my fledgeling Youtube channel here.
Until next time, may you have cake in your life!!
Blessings,
