Butterfly Trellis Card - Donna Lewis
Hello crafty friends. I wonder where butterflies go when it rains. That was the name of a book I had as a child. I wish I remembered the answer, because I find myself wondering that again this week as a typhoon comes through Japan. We are safe in our house, and even as I type this, the typhoon is petering out. We’ve had some amazing rain though, and the river was right up the embankment. Today’s card uses elements that are both the same and opposite. Let me explain…
Let’s start with the background. It is called the Butterfly Trellis Stencil from Paper Rose stencil, and I’ve ink blended it with three colours –Citrine, Rose Apple and Hot Mama -two of which are opposite on the colour wheel. If I were to place the purple and yellow together on the card, the resulting blend would be brown, so I’ve separated them with some pink in. I blended lightly to begin with on plain cardstock, and then added the stencil and went back over with a heavier hand, moving where I placed the colours just a little.
You can see the video of the card making process below, along with some footage of another Japanese festival.
The main image for this card is the Cleo Floral Butterfly Stamp, which I have stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and coloured with my Copic Markers. I chose colours to match my inks.
I cut the butterfly with scissors, leaving a small border around the outside – those antennae are much too thin to withstand being cut exactly on the line. The butterfly has glue in the centre, but foam tape on the wings, so that they stand up from the page. The sentiment comes from the Black and White Sentiment set, which is so cut up by now, it’s quite a rummage to find sentiments. I think I’ve used this on close to 100 cards by now!
That’s all for today’s card. I hope that you are having lovely weather where you are, and that you are getting some time to be crafty!
Until next time,
Blessings,
Donna
